Universities’ senior staff to strike on Monday October 19,2020
The Senior Staff Association of Ghanaian Universities has threatened to strike from Monday, October 19, 2020.
According to the association, the decision to withdraw their services is due to the government’s failure to address what they describe as pertinent labour issues.
“Pursuant to the government’s insensitivity to our plight we thereby declare withdrawal of our services with effect from Monday 19, October 2020”, it said.

Addressing the media in Accra on Friday, the National Chairman of the Association, Abdul-Majeed Yussif said the government exhibited bad faith in ongoing negotiations.
“In previous correspondence with government, we enumerated several reasons why the universities payroll should not be migrated to the Controller and Account General’s payroll system. We reiterate our call to government to stop the subtle moves to do so. Instead, we strongly advocate for special dispensation akin to that granted to the security services and other public institutions with respect to salary administration.”
He added that all attempts by the national leadership to get the government to address their concerns such as the lack of study leave with pay, medical care for staff and families, among others, have proved futile.
The association therefore called on its members to lay down their tools and hoist red flags across all campuses, saying the National Labour Commission was aware of its strike ultimatum.
