WAEC calls for release of funds to complete WASSCE marking process
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has made an urgent appeal to the Ministry of Education for the release of outstanding funds to enable the completion of post-examination activities for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates.
According to a press release issued by WAEC on December 9, 2024, the examination body has successfully completed the marking of essays and practical components of the WASSCE papers.

However, the scanning of objective cards, scheduled for November 1 to November 30, has been delayed due to a malfunction of the scanners used in the process.
WAEC revealed that it is waiting for a debt payment of GHC 118,000,000.00 from the Ministry of Education. The funds are necessary to repair the faulty scanners and continue with the scanning process and other post-examination activities. WAEC has stressed that the delay in receiving these funds is holding up the final stages of the marking process, which in turn is affecting the release of results.
In the meantime, WAEC has appealed to examination officials and suppliers to remain patient, assuring them that payments for their services will be made as soon as the required funds are released.
The Council also issued a stern warning to the public, urging them to disregard any unofficial social media posts claiming to know the dates for the release of the results. The official release of the results will only occur once the challenges in the post-examination activities are resolved.
The press release signed by WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John K. Kapi, reassured the public that the council was working diligently to resolve the technical issues and to ensure the results were released without further delay.
