This year’s celebration, which would start from May 2, would be climaxed with a durbar on May 7, 2016 after the hunting for a live deer by the two Asafo companies, Tuafo Number One and Dentsifo Number Two.

It would be held on the theme: “Unity, key to national development.” A 19-member board under the chairmanship of Nenyi Kojo Beedu has also been inaugurated to oversee the successful organisation of the festival.

Addressing the media after the launch, the spokesperson for the newly reconstituted board, Obaatan Armah-Sekum of Tuafo No 1, said the festival was for the chiefs and people of Winneba and not any particular individual.

He noted that it would be celebrated in an atmosphere of peace and tranquillity to enable the people to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the people of Effutu.

According to him, all stakeholders would be actively involved in the celebration to attract a lot of people and tourists to the town during the celebration.

He called on indigenes of the town both far and near to come on board to effectively contribute to an incident-free celebration this year.

‘’Aboakyir is an internationally recognised festival and we will ensure that it is organised in a peaceful manner,”’ he added.

Board chairman

The Chairman of the board, Nenyi Beedu, assured the general public of a violence-free celebration which would help portray the tourism potential of the festival.

He urged all corporate bodies and individuals who wish to support the festival to deal directly with the board through its chairman and members.
