Nii Laryea noted that the enstoolment of the new chief had effectively curtailed the situation where some persons were illegally holding themselves out as regents in the area and were engaging in illegalities in the name of the stool.

The Minister said the visit signalled his formal recognition of the enstoolment of Nii Amobi II and to let the security agencies and all other stakeholders know that Appolonia now had a chief who had been duly gazetted and acknowledged by  all levels of the House of Chiefs.

Nii Laryea also drew the attention of the Lands Commission, Survey Department and other relevant state institutions, to the fact that there was no other chief of Appolonia other than Nii Nuertey Amobi II.

“I don’t want any conflict in my region. I don’t want anyone to come and cause confusion,” he said and served notice thus, “Whoever wants to be an impediment in the way of the peace and development of the region, I am prepared to face”.

Appolonia poised for development

The Regional Minister said as Member of Parliament for the area, he was aware that the people had come a long way in their quest for development, saying some time back, “the road network was bad, the economic situation was very bad and the young men of the town had to go elsewhere to win sand because they were being intimidated”.

Nii Laryea said progress had been made over the period, adding that with the installation of Nii Amobi II, calm and a sense of direction had returned to the area and the youth were now going about their work peacefully.

He cautioned persons who claimed to have purchased pieces of land from the chief of the area and were developing them, to stop because the rightful chief was not aware of those transactions.

Nii Amobi II indicated his preparedness to protect the lands of Appolonia, stressing that, “The properties of Appolonia belong to the people of Appolonia and for them only.”

He urged the people to continue to pray for peace, the grace of God and unity so that all will come together and work to develop the area.

The Member of Council of State for the Greater Accra Region, Mr Emmanuel Adzei Anang, affirmed that there was a legitimate chief of Appolonia by name Nii Amobi II, adding that in the Kpone Katamanso Traditional Area, there was no title as “regent” contending, therefore, anyone who claimed to hold such a title, should be disregarded.

“I want to assure all that there is peace in Appolonia”, he added.
