Located in the Ablekuma North Constituency, the facility is the 15th millennium city school inaugurated so far by the AMA.

The assembly has programmed to construct 122 schools under its millennium city schools project.

The three-storey school complex is disability friendly and comprises science and computer laboratories, a library, washrooms and a kindergarten.

The 18-unit classroom block, funded by the World Bank under the Local Government Capacity Support Project, is intended to improve the delivery of quality education in the metropolis.

AMA is committed

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of the AMA, Mr Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, said the construction of the educational facility formed part of the government's commitment to support all assemblies to provide the needed infrastructure, such as educational facilities, in the various metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDAs).

He said the sod would be cut for the construction of six more schools in Accra in the near future.

“We are able to do these things because the AMA had, since 2011, committed itself to ensuring that we successfully attain the highest score on the Functional Organisation Assessment Tool for all district assemblies and that yielded over GHc45 million for the assembly which is used for these projects,” he said.

Mr Vanderpuije said it was the resolve of the assembly to continue to work hard and ensure that it delivered the best services to the people of Accra.

He urged teachers to improve their attendance in school and also ensure that the facilities were properly maintained.

Support laudable

The Accra Metro Director of Education, Mr Kwesi Hutchful, lauded the efforts of the assembly to ensure the delivery of quality education in the metropolis.

He pledged to ensure that the facilities were fully utilised for the benefit of the pupils.

The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, Mr Justice Joe Appiah, also commended the assembly for making education a priority in its projects and activities.
