Ambassador Ahwoi presents credentials to Comoros

Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa and concurrently accredited to five other countries, Mr Kwesi Ahwoi, has presented his credentials to the President of the Comoros at a colourful ceremony at the capital city of Moroni.

This is the first time a Ghanaian High Commissioner has presented his credential to the Comoros.

The other four countries are Mauritius, Seychelles, Lesotho and Swaziland. Mr Ahwoi is based in Pretoria, South Africa.

An excited President of Comoros, Dr. Ikililou Dhoinine commended Ghana for sending an ambassador to that country for the first time and expressed the hope that this would mark the beginning of greater and a mutual relationship.

Mr Ahwoi also expressed the felicitations of President Mahama and the people of Ghana to their counterparts in Comoros and indicated Ghana’s readiness to deepen the relationship.

After the ceremony, President Dr. Ikililou Dhoinine put logistics at the disposal of Mr Ahwoi and his entourage to see as much of the Islands as possible and also celebrate the country’s national day which falls on July 6, 2016.

President Dr. Ikililou Dhoinine was confident that the bond would lead to Ghanaian businesses investing in the Comoros’ great potential, particularly in the area of agriculture, fisheries, oil and gas and bi-lingual translation training.

Another area that the President mentioned was soccer, where he believed that Ghanaian expertise could be brought to bear on the island to identify talents and groom them to emulate Ghana’s high credentials in world soccer.

Mr Ahwoi described the island as green field terrain awaiting exploitation and urged the Ghanaian private sector to take up the opportunity and extend their businesses and investments to the island and tap the great potential that abound.
