Attempted murder case transferred from Jasikan to Ho

A Hohoe District Court in the Volta Region, presided over by Joseph Yennuban Kunsong, has committed Theresa Dogbe to stand trial at Ho High Court on February 18, 2025.

Ms  Dogbe's committal followed a presentation by  Anthony Ghattie of the Office of State Attorney in Ho.

Giving the facts of the case, Mr Ghattie told the court that Theresa Dogbe’s case was an indictment that needed a High Court to hear the matter.

The case, the State Attorney’s office said, was transferred from the Jasikan District Court to Ho on the orders of the Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Torkonoo, based on a petition by the complainant, Madam Mercy Tetteh, at Attakrom Buem in the Jasikan Municipality since May 1, 2020.

Facts of the case

According to the facts of the case,  Mercy Tetteh and her daughter set off to their farm carrying a machete on her head.

Quite unknown to her, Theresa Dogbe, who was pregnant at the time, emerged from an uncompleted building, took the machete from her head, slashed her knee and upper abdomen and fled.

The daughter, on seeing the mother bleeding profusely, ran back into the community to raise an alarm, which alerted some neighbours to rush the victim to the Jasikan Police Station.

Upon arrival, they were, however, directed by a female police officer to send her first to the Jasikan Government Hospital, from where Mercy Tetteh was said to have been rushed to the theatre for immediate attention.

Mercy Tetteh later made a report to the police upon her discharge, leading to the arrest of Theresa Dogbe.

The suspect was subsequently arrested and arraigned before the Jasikan District Court.

She was granted bail due to her pregnancy while the case continued to suffer many adjournments.
