Barima Adjei Twinin wins award

The Dwantoahene of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area, Barima Kofi Adjei Twinin, has won the 2016 African Humanitarian Award for his contribution towards peace and development in the country.

Barima Adjei Twinin, who was once the Regent of Kwabeng in the Atiwa District in the Eastern Region, was instrumental in brokering peace to end a chieftaincy dispute in that area.

He is also the Chief Executive Officer of Mac-Dic Enterprises Limited, a company that has contributed immensely to the hospitality industry in the country. It owns and runs the Mac-Dic Plaza, a highly rated hotel in Koforidua.

The awards scheme, which began in 2013, was instituted by the Ecclesiastical Bishops and Leaders Conference of Africa, a non-denominational Christian organisation that champions the development and transformation of Africa.

The organisation operates in six African countries, namely: Uganda, Kenya, Cote d’Ivoire, Sierra Leone, Ghana and Nigeria. 

Every year, the award moves to a different country where the organisation operates.

This year’s edition is the first in Ghana.

Past recipients of the award include the Ugandan President, Mr Yoweri Museveni; the Speaker of the Ugandan Parliament, Ms Rebecca Kadaga, and the First Lady of Kenya, Mrs Magaret Gakuo Kenyatta.

Citation

A citation accompanying the award said: “For being a pillar to the community; for your commitment and service to humanity, eloquence, candid and charismatic nature, we applaud you, Barima Kofi Adjei Twinin. You are a natural leader who instinctively moves to the helm.
