Bawumia inaugurates 1,070 affordable housing units, criticises Mahama's record in housing sector
Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has inaugurated 1,070 housing units under the Kpone Affordable Housing Project, touting his government’s achievements in the housing sector while criticising the record of the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration led by former President John Dramani Mahama.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Dr. Bawumia emphasised the stark difference in housing delivery between the two administrations. He asserted that the current government had demonstrated a superior commitment to resolving Ghana’s housing challenges compared to its predecessor.

“Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has made it very clear, and the data is there to back it. If you look at what we have done, the record in the housing sector over the last eight years is vastly superior to the record of the previous government. It is not even close,” Dr. Bawumia stated.
Dr. Bawumia pointed out that the Tema Development Company (TDC) did not complete a single housing unit during the Mahama administration. Similarly, he claimed that State Housing only managed to construct 12 houses in eight years under the NDC.
“In contrast, we have done over a thousand houses in State Housing alone and over a thousand with TDC. The comparison is not close,” Dr. Bawumia said. “You are talking about elephants versus nkokonketenketen,” he added, drawing laughter from the audience.
The Kpone Affordable Housing Project is part of the government’s broader strategy to address Ghana's housing deficit by delivering affordable and sustainable housing solutions. Dr. Bawumia lauded the contributions of the Tema Development Company and other stakeholders for their role in the project.
The Vice President’s remarks come as the country prepares for the December 7 general elections, with housing and infrastructure emerging as key issues on the campaign trail.
