She said members needed to build a united front for unity and progress.

Ms Bossman gave the advice at the fifth Quadrennial Delegate Conference of the GHABA in Cape Coast on the theme: “Setting the stage for a more sustainable future: The need for commitment and skill development of the cosmetologist.

Conflict resolution

Ms Bossman stated: “We should try to resolve all conflicts through dialogue. It behoves us, as members, to always exercise restraint and build a united front for peace to prevail.”

On efforts to upgrade the skills of members, Ms Bossman announced that the association had acquired a parcel of land at Kasoa in the Central Region to build a national academy of cosmetology to train beauticians across the country.

She said education was crucial not only for the country’s human resource development, but for the overall growth of the society.

“In view of this, I urge all leaders to commit themselves to improving information flow to members by inviting competent resource persons to talk and share experiences on issues that border on the social needs of members,” she said.

On the effect of the current energy crisis on their business, the president said, “the sad aspect is that most of our members, who are the sole bread winners of their families, have been rendered jobless.”

Training

The Central Regional Minister, Mr Acquinas Tawiah Quansah, urged members not to regard hairdressing as a profession for school drop-outs and advised them to work hard to change that perception.

He called for regular training for members in order to meet the current socio-economic demands.
