The President of Breast Care International and Chief Executive Officer of Peace and Love Hospitals, Dr Beatrice Wiafe Addai,  told the press that  the inclusion of other non-communicable diseases in its programms was to create awareness of other cancers, particularly prostate cancer and other diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

Church screening

Meanwhile, hundreds of  members of two religious institutions in Accra, the Laterbiokoshie branch of Seventh Day Adventist and the Kwashieman congregation of the Presbyterian Church, have separately benefited from free breast cancer screening by Breast Care International.

With significant presence of men at the Laterbiokoshie SDA, Dr Wiafe seized the moment and educated them on prostate cancer and other non-communicable diseases.

The clergy of both institutions were unanimous that  breast cancer and cancers in general had had a heavy toll on the socio-economic well-being of women and encouraged the faithful to carry out self- examination as demonstrated by the BCI team and report anything unusual promptly for medical treatment.

Akokoamon

At Akokoamon in the Ashanti Region, the BCI team also offered free screening to hundreds of women to mark the 10th anniversary celebrations of the Asomdwe Firi Nyame Fun Cub.

Explaining with the aid of pictorial representations, Dr Wiafe Addai cautioned against associating the disease with superstition, insisting it was curable provided patients reported the condition on time.

The President of the fun club, Francis Boakye, said  it was wrong  to abandon wives and  relatives afflicted by the disease and instead encouraged peace and love during those challenging and difficult moments.
