The mechanisation, which would benefit 23 communities, began in September last year and is being piloted in communities such as Boatenkrom, Petransa, Odumase Zongo and Santreso, Konongo-Low Cost and Kramokrom after which it would be replicated in the remaining communities by the end of June.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Konongo-Odumase, Alhaji Briamah Boyong, told the Daily Graphic at Boatenkrom that the water project was part of various initiatives put in place by the assembly and the government to ease the burden of the people and improve their standard of living.

He made the disclosure after leading a delegation to present relief items to 547 households from Dwease, Boatenkrom, Beposo and other towns who were victims in the recent fire outbreak in the municipality. The burning of the farmlands occurred last Wednesday and Thursday and it left in its trail the destruction of more than 20,000 hectares of farmlands.

A day after the disaster, the municipal chief executive toured the affected communities after which the assembly formed a nine-member committee to undertake a fact-finding mission in the areas.

The MCE assured the victims that the assembly was in talks with the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) to supply all cocoa farmers in the area with new planting seedlings. He also appealed to the farmers to prepare their lands while waiting for the rains and the planting seedlings.

The Chief of Dwease, Nana Owusu Banahene, commended the government for the support and pledged to share the items among the affected persons.

He appealed to the government to provide them with planting materials since they lost everything during the fire.

The Assembly Member for Boatenkrom, Mr Patrick Adomako Nyamekye, appealed to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to grant them support to enable them cut down the burnt cocoa tree since it would be a difficult task for the farmers alone.
