Commonwealth University honours Effah Apraku, others
The Commonwealth University and the London Graduate School has conferred honorary doctorate degrees on Mr Sampson Effah Apraku, Executive Chairman of Samara Company Limited, and eight other Ghanaians who have excelled in their various fields of endeavour.
The Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) degree was awarded during the university’s convocation and graduation ceremony held recently in Dubai.
The awardees were recognised for their services, selflessness and other outstanding contributions at their various managerial levels through which the lives of many Ghanaians have been touched positively.
Other awardees
The other awardees were Mr Moses Asaga, the CEO of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA); Mr Kwame Acheampong-Kyei, CEO of GLICO Group; Mr Daniel Mckorley, CEO of McDan Shipping Company; The Very Reverend Ollennu, a Minister of the Methodist Church Ghana, and Mr Benedict Kwesi Tandoh, Group Chairperson of BBS Group of companies.
The rest are Ms Kwao-Simmonds, Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited; Dr Anthony Kwesi Aubynn, CEO of Minerals Commission, and Mr Kwame Antwi-Boasiako, President, Ghana Institute of Management.
According to the Chancellor of the University, Prof. Michael Addison, the distinguished businessmen are worthy of acknowledgment and the award because they have had a positive impact on the development of their countries.
Each of the awardees received a citation that accompanied the DBA certificate.
Citation
Mr Effah’s citation said that his “journey as an entrepreneur began years back and he has been serving as the Executive Chairman of Samara Group of Companies since 2007, exhibiting extensive practical knowledge in the management of business.”
“He is one man who has a knack for seeing ahead. Mr Affah Aprah developed the Sasso Brand insecticide spray and coil which has grown to become the number one insecticide spray and coil in the market,” the citation added.
It continued: “His vision to move from marketing curative drugs to producing preventive ones led to the production of Sasso Insecticide Spray and Coil and, as expected, the Sasso Brand has benefited immensely from his expertise. The brand was adjudged the top emerging brand and fastest growing brand in 2014. It again won the fastest growing company of the year under the Head of State Award Scheme, Business Award 2015.
The citation added that “Mr Effah Apraku had also been a recipient of the prestigious Nobles International Award for men and women of integrity in West Africa.”
There were other awardees from Nigeria, South Africa and other African countries.
