Ghanaians can expect a largely cloudy start to Tuesday, July 28, with the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) forecasting mist, fog and isolated light rain across parts of the country before thunderstorms develop later in the day in some northern and transition areas.
According to GMet's 18-hour forecast, the morning will be characterised by widespread cloud cover, with mist and fog patches expected over coastal, forest and mountainous areas, reducing visibility for motorists and other road users.
The agency said a few coastal and forest communities could experience pockets of slight rain or drizzle during the early hours, while isolated thunderstorms or rain are expected in parts of the Upper West and Upper East regions.
In southern Ghana, mostly cloudy conditions are forecast for communities including Aflao, Anloga, Ho and Kasoa. Light rain is expected in Accra, Koforidua, Akim Oda, Kwahu Tafo, Kumasi and Obuasi, while mist is likely in Winneba, Cape Coast, Takoradi, Axim, Tarkwa and Sefwi Bekwai. Kintampo is expected to experience variable cloud cover.
Across the northern and middle belts, mist is forecast for Kete Krachi, Atebubu, Ejura, Sampa and Goaso. Thunderstorms accompanied by rain could affect Wa and Jirapa, while Yendi, Tamale, Bole, Damongo, Bolgatanga and Nalerigu are expected to remain partly cloudy. Techiman is forecast to be mostly cloudy, with sunny intervals expected in Sunyani.
As the day progresses, GMet said sunshine will break through in many parts of the country, although variable cloudiness will persist. The agency expects thunderstorms with rain to develop over parts of the transition and northern belts later in the afternoon and into the evening.
Temperatures are expected to range from minimum values of 23°C along the coast and in forest areas to 24°C in the north. Maximum temperatures are forecast to reach 30°C in the coastal and forest zones, 32°C in the transition belt and as high as 33°C in northern Ghana.
The agency has also cautioned that the sea will remain rough throughout the day, urging fishermen, coastal residents and other users of marine waters to exercise caution.
With reduced visibility expected during the morning and the likelihood of afternoon thunderstorms in some areas, motorists have been advised to drive carefully while residents are encouraged to stay updated with the latest weather information.
