The Minister for Energy and Green Transitions, John Jinapor, has dismissed claims that the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is being sold.
Speaking during a working visit to the West African Gas Pipeline Company Station in Tema today, February 21, he clarified that while the government was exploring private sector participation, ECG is not up for sale.
He explained that the initiative is aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the power distributor’s operations, rather than transferring ownership.
“The news reports, publications, and commentary by some people who should know better, suggesting that we are selling ECG, are not true,” he stated.

Mr Jinapor emphasised that introducing private sector participation would help reduce losses and increase revenue, ultimately ensuring that citizens can afford their electricity bills.
“It will not be sold, but we want private sector involvement to improve efficiency, reduce losses, and strengthen the revenue base so that we can meet our financial obligations,” he added.
