Engage Now Africa, in partnership with United Way Ghana, has provided vital vocational tools to survivors of human trafficking in the Ada East Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, aiming to empower them towards sustainable economic independence.

This initiative, funded by the P&G Alumni Foundation, has so far supported 23 survivors across Ada East and Ada West Municipalities, including 12 who were directly rescued by Engage Now Africa and are now receiving equipment for sewing and hairdressing.

Launched in May 2024, the P&G Alumni Foundation Anti-Child Trafficking Project targets 60 survivors across the Greater Accra, Volta, and Central Regions.

Beyond vocational training, the project offers financial literacy education and equips the survivors with the necessary tools to practice the trades they have learned, ensuring they are well-prepared to rebuild their lives and contribute positively to their communities.

Ms. Faustina Abbey, Executive Director of United Way Ghana, highlighted the project's significance, stating, “This initiative, funded by the P&G Alumni Foundation, is a testament to our dedication to combating child trafficking in Ghana.

By providing survivors with work tools and supporting their economic empowerment, we aim to secure a brighter future for these young Ghanaians.”

Mr. Afasi Komla, Director of Operations at Engage Now Africa, emphasized the importance of mentorship and empowerment in reintegrating survivors into society.

He noted, “Providing survivors with education, job training, and job placement is crucial in helping them achieve true independence and freedom.”

Maame Kwaaba Stephens, Chapter Leader of P&G Alumni Foundation Ghana, urged the public to prioritize the education and vocational training of children over monetary exchanges, especially in the face of economic hardship.

The initiative also includes comprehensive prevention efforts by Engage Now Africa’s End Modern Slavery program, which combines education, job training, healthcare, and economic opportunities with protection from harmful cultural practices and discrimination.

The handing over ceremony of the empowerment tools saw the presence of several key stakeholders, including Jeremiah Addo-Twum, Finance Director at Ghana Gas; Jerome Ashie, Assistant Social Welfare Officer at the Ada East District Assembly; and representatives from United Way Ghana.
