Female students advised to build their entrepreneurial skills
Female students have been advised to build their entrepreneurial skills while in school and aspire to achieve greater responsibilities in life and contribute to national development.
The Executive Director of the Network of Women in Growth (NEWIG) Ghana, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), Mrs Mawusi Nudekor Awity, gave the advice when delivering a lecture at a one-day forum dubbed: “Women and students in entrepreneurship summit”, at the University College of Management Studies (UCOMS) in Accra.
The summit was part of efforts to whip up the entrepreneurial skills of students, particularly women, in order to reduce the high rate of unemployment in the country.
“Entrepreneurship is a way of bringing up good ideas to solve the world’s challenges and women have the potential which will enable them to make a lot of money and have influence in order to fight the cause of their fellow women.
“You should not wait until you are out of school before you think of what to do or search for jobs. Rather, start now and before you realise you are touching lives and making an impact, as well as fighting for your fellow women,” Mrs Awity, who is herself an entrepreneur, said.
Direction
Using herself as an example, she charged the students to know the direction they wanted to go in life and never give up whenever they failed the first time.
“Your family background must not determine where you want to be in life; you need to know where you are and where you are heading to in life,” she added.
She indicated that there were a lot of opportunities around them while in school and challenged them to acquire mentors in life who could hold them responsible for anything they did by way of shaping their lives.

Purpose
The Executive President of the Osei-Kusi Foundation, an NGO, Dr Kofi Osei-Kusi, stated that there were various types of entrepreneurship and it was the responsibility of students to identify them and know which ones they adequately fitted into.
For her part, the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, advised the participants to learn how to package products in order to make them attractive to consumers.
