Police seize gun, 11,000 rounds of ammunition in Oti; two arrested

Two men have been arrested in the Oti Region after police intercepted a truck loaded with a pump-action gun and thousands of rounds of ammunition concealed under tarpaulins.

The suspects, Richard Kpimbi, 27, the driver, and his mate, Latif Adam, 20, were picked up by the Nkwanta Municipal Police Command on April 29, 2026, at the Brewaniase Police barrier.

Police said the arrest followed an intelligence-led operation during which officers stopped a Kia Rhino truck with registration number GW 9927-13 and conducted a search.

The search revealed one Adler pump-action gun, 7,000 AAA cartridges, 3,000 BB cartridges and 1,124 live rounds of AK-47 ammunition. The items were concealed in plastic sacks and boxes under tarpaulins in the cargo area.

The suspects are assisting the police with investigations, while the exhibits have been retained for evidential purposes.

In a statement dated April 29,2026 and signed by the Public Affairs Officer of the Oti Regional Police Headquarters, Deputy Superintendent of Police John Nchor, the police did not disclose the suspected source or intended destination of the items.

The command has appealed to the public to volunteer credible information to aid the fight against crime.
