Filmmaker arrested over viral video threat to shoot police officers
The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 32-year-old filmmaker, Israel Agbo Forson, after a video circulated on social media showing him threatening to shoot police officers.
The arrest was carried out on Monday, June 23, 2025, during an intelligence-led operation at North Legon in Accra, where Mr Forson resides.
According to a statement issued by the Regional Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service, Mr Forson was seen in the video confronting officers and issuing threats during what appeared to be a traffic stop.
He is currently on police enquiry bail and is assisting with investigations.
The video, which went viral over the weekend, drew public attention and condemnation. In response, the police described the conduct in the video as unlawful and said it undermines public order and the authority of law enforcement.
“The Ghana Police Service once again condemns in the strongest terms acts of incitement, threats, and obstruction against law enforcement officers,” the statement said.
It added that such behaviour would not be tolerated and offenders would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The statement, signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, called on the public to cooperate with police officers in the performance of their duties and to report any grievances through appropriate channels.
Mr Forson has not yet been formally charged. Police say the investigation is still ongoing.
