Fire destroys Children’s Ward at Assemblies of God Hospital in Saboba

A fire outbreak has destroyed the Children’s Ward of the Assemblies of God (AG) Hospital in Saboba, Northern Region, displacing young patients and disrupting services at the facility.

The blaze, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday evening, razed the entire ward, destroying beds, medical equipment, and other essential supplies.

An eyewitness recounted the terrifying moment the fire broke out. “We were in the ward and noticed the fire started at the entrance of the children’s ward, so we started running out before it spread rapidly through the facility,” the witness said.

Sources at the hospital indicated that six children were on admission at the time of the incident. Hospital staff, along with relatives, successfully evacuated all of them safely. The children have since been relocated to other wards to continue receiving medical care.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded promptly to the scene, but challenges with equipment reportedly hampered initial efforts to contain the blaze.

Residents and other security personnel later joined in to prevent the fire from spreading to adjoining wards, eventually bringing the situation under control.

No casualties were recorded.

Meanwhile, the cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Hospital authorities are expected to conduct a full assessment of the damage as steps are taken to restore services at the facility.
