The fire which is said to have started around 8pm was still raging as of midnight.

According to Donald Ato Dapatem, Ashanti Regional Correspondent of Graphic, the area that had been burnt by the fire was about the same size of four football pitches.

The fire occurred at the second hand cloth dealers area (folks line).

Fire personnel and allied security agencies, supported by about seven  fire tenders have been battling the fires, with the entire area sealed off from the public.

The area burnt down is the Subinso portion of Kejetia, where the traders deal in second hand clothes close to Dr Mensah area,

Fire personnel on the ground say the Thursday night outbreak is one of the biggest fire outbreaks at the market in recent years.

This is the second time the same area has burnt this year, after a similar fire outbreak early on in February left in its wake widespread destruction and devastated traders, mainly women, whose trading capital fizzled out in the smoke.
