Fire guts two shops near Circle VVIP terminal, no casualties recorded

The Ghana National Fire Service has successfully brought under control a fire that gutted two shops near the Royal VVIP Bus Terminal at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.

The incident, which occurred on Friday, January 2, 2026, resulted in no casualties.

According to a report published by the Service on its official Facebook page, the fire was reported at 8:40 p.m. to the Circle Fire Station, whose fire tender was out of service at the time. The alert was therefore relayed to the Fire Master Control, which dispatched the Industrial Area Fire Station as the first responder. Firefighters arrived at the scene at 8:50 p.m.

Upon arrival, the crew encountered the blaze at an advanced stage. The officer in charge subsequently requested reinforcement, prompting the deployment of additional fire tenders from the National Headquarters and Accra City Fire Stations.

The fire was brought under control by 9:08 p.m. and completely extinguished by 11:22 p.m., preventing it from spreading to adjoining shops in the area.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire started in one shop before spreading to the second.

Both structures were extensively damaged, although the contents suffered only partial loss. Investigations into the exact cause of the fire are ongoing.
