Sports Minister seeks Ga Mantse's blessings for Black Stars
The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams has formally notified the Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II of Ghana’s impending fifth FIFA World Cup participation and requested his blessings for the success of the Black Stars on the global stage.
Mr Adams reiterated that Ghana will square off against Colonial Master England in-between fixtures against Panama and Croatia in Group L of the global showpiece in USA, Canada and Mexico, June 11-July 19 and emphasized the need for the support of overlord of the capital on the World Cup.
Hailing the monarch’s leadership of tolerance and dedication to good governance and youth empowerment, the Minister also informed and sought the blessings and support of Nii Tsuru for other upcoming international events within his enclave like the 24th CAA African Senior Athletics Championships and the African Armwrestling Championships, both in in Accra in May.
According to the Minister, the visit to the king in his palace, underscored the strong relationship between traditional leadership and national institutions in Ghana’s pursuit of sporting excellence and cultural promotion. These events are set to showcase Ghana’s sporting prowess and foster unity among its people, he stressed.
“Our tradition tells us that before attending a function you need to come back to the high to take more power before you step out. So our presence here today is to say thank you first and foremost for the many blessings His Majesty has bestowed on us,” the MP for Buem said.
“We are here to inform you officially that your team, the Black Stars, through your prayers and support is going to the World Cup for a 5th time. We are very convinced that victory will be ours with your blessings once again,” he said.

Responding through a spokesperson, the Ga Mantse described sports as a unifying force and heartbeat of the nation, not only a means of entertainment but also a vital tool for national development and cultural promotion.
He commended Minister Adams for his leadership and urged him to leverage Ghana’s rich cultural heritage on the international stage, especially during a global tournament like the FIFA World Cup. Even wearing of national colours serves not just as a symbol of national pride and unity, it can create economic opportunities, the Ga King emphasized.
“There must be peace and unity within the Black Stars camp. Players and officials must be focused and committed to the the national cause,” Nii Teiko Tsuru II said.
“It’s our hope and prayer that divine blessings will be upon all national teams and athletes, particularly the Black Stars, to excel in their disciplines and bring glory to Mother Ghana.”
