Black Stars’ new coach Queiroz arrives, Sports Ministry presents ‘fugu’ gift
Portuguese tactician Carlos Queiroz has arrived in Ghana ahead of his official unveiling as the new head coach of the Black Stars.
The veteran coach touched down at Accra International Airport on Wednesday evening and is expected to stay at a hotel in Accra before addressing the media at the Alisa Hotel on Thursday, April 23.
Hundreds of football-loving fans lined up at the airport to welcome him, amid drumming and dancing.
Meanwhile, Sports Minister Kofi Adams welcomed Queiroz and presented the Portuguese coach with a ‘fugu’ gift during an official introduction at the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.
The event was attended by Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku and other executives.
"If you entered your new country now (Ghana) on Wednesday, it is appropriate for the Ministry of Sports and Recreation to present you a 'fugu' gift and to usher you into the country and to let you know you are truly one of us," Mr Adams said.
The 73-year-old tactician has been hired on a four-month deal as a replacement for Otto Addo, running until the end of the FIFA World Cup.
The experienced coach is tasked with stabilising the team after four successive defeats under his predecessor.
Ghana have been drawn in Group L of the World Cup, where they will face England, Croatia and Panama.
