Fire ravages NEDCo Warehouse in Tamale, destroys transformers and insulators
A fire outbreak at the Central Warehouse of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) in Tamale on Sunday afternoon destroyed several electrical materials, including over 20 transformers and an undisclosed number of insulators.
The blaze, which started around 2pm, also damaged an electric pole with a transformer that supplies power to the warehouse. However, personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) managed to contain the fire and prevent further destruction.
Speaking to the media, the Northern Regional Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, Baba Hudu, said the cause of the fire remains unknown. He, however, commended the swift response of fire personnel in containing the situation.
"We had a distress call at 1400 hours and immediately dispatched two fire tenders from the Tamale Metro Fire Station and the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) Fire Station. Due to the intensity of the fire, we had to use foam concentrate to extinguish it," Mr. Hudu explained.

Meanwhile, NEDCo's Corporate Communications Manager, Maxwell Kotoka, assured the public that the incident would not disrupt the power supply to external areas.
"The destruction only affected outdoor electrical materials and a transformer that supplies power to the warehouse. We are working hard to restore power to the facility. No external areas or institutions have been affected," Mr. Kotoka stated.
