Upper West Region: Firefighters contain market blaze, avert spread to shops

Firefighters from the Nadowli Fire Station in the Upper West Region have successfully contained a market fire, preventing it from spreading to nearby shops and residential buildings.

The Ghana National Fire Service responded to a distress call at 1:15 pm and promptly dispatched a fire appliance with a four-member crew to the scene.

Upon arrival, firefighters swiftly laid hoses and brought the blaze under control by 2:28 pm, before fully extinguishing it at 4:20 pm.

Although an estimated 40 to 50 temporary market stalls were destroyed in the fire, the rapid response of the crew ensured that permanent stores and surrounding houses were spared.

Firefighting efforts were initially hampered by challenges in accessing water.

However, the situation was resolved through the intervention of the Nadowli District Chief Executive, Mary Haroona, with support from a DRIP water tanker, which enabled firefighters to complete the operation.
