Five in court for gang assault
Five men who subjected two former GPRTU executives at the Accra-Ho lorry station to severe beatings have appeared before an Accra Magistrate’s court

The five, Emmanuel Kwasi Fleku, Emmanuel Dzetor, and John Semiabi, drivers; Abdul Rahaman Okantey, a porter, and Habibi Iddrisu were charged with conspiracy to commit crime and assault when they appeared before the Adjabeng Court 1 presided over by Ms Arit Nsemoh.
Dzetor pleaded guilty to both charges, while Fleku, Okantey, Semiabi and Iddrisu pleaded not guilty to both counts.
They were each bailed in the sum of GH₵2,500 with two sureties and asked to pay GH₵800 each as security deposit.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Gregory Yeboah said the complainants in the case were Francis Kugblenu and Alfred Nii Dapoh, former GPRTU Executives at the Accra-Ho lorry station.
He said in June 2015, the National Executive Committee of the GPRTU suspended Kugblenu, Dapoh and other officials for misconduct.
C/Inspector Yeboah also said on November 10, 2015, Kugblenu and Dapoh received letters from the regional executive that the national executives of GPRTU had reinstated them.
The next day, Kugblenu, Dapoh and others went to the Accra-Ho lorry station to continue their administrative duties. When they got there, Fleku, Okantey, Semiabi, Dzetor and Iddrisu attacked Kugblenu and Dapoh and beat them severely.
A report was made to the police and medical forms were issued to Kugblenu and Dapoh to attend hospital for treatment. The five accused persons were then arrested and arraigned.
