Footbridge over Nsoso river soon

The people of Dutch Komenda in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem municipality would soon have a footbridge over the Nsoso river to reduce the dangers that come with crossing the river on foot to their farms.

Work on the Gh¢ 7,000 footbridge, being funded by the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Dr Nana Ato Arthur, has begun and is expected to be completed in two months.

The Nsoso river flows through the Dutch Komenda community into the sea. The people of Dutch Komenda, many of them farmers, find it difficult to cross the river to the other side of the community where most of the farmlands are located.

During the rainy season when the volume of the river usually rises, they are not able to cross over to their farms. Foodstuffs are usually left to rot on the farms because it is unsafe for farmers to go to their farms.

Madam Agnes Awotwe a resident said she was particularly happy about the initiative by the MP to construct the foot bridge saying the gesture had come as a relief to the community.

She explained that sometimes, many especially women, were left stranded on their farms when it rained.

In recent times, tidal waves are destroying  the community’s beautiful coastline and structures along the shore .

The community’s only option is to develop estates along the Nsoso river and the bridge across it makes this option more feasible.

Dr Arthur said he had committed Gh¢ 4,000 of his share of the Social Investment Fund allocation to help build the bridge.

This was after the chief appealed to him to help with the construction of the bridge at the community’s festival last year.

He assured the people that in two months the bridge would be ready for use.

Energetic men in a spirit of volunteerism, which is missing in many communities, offloaded a truck load of treated wood from Dupaul Wood Treatment Company to begin the construction of the bridge.

Nana Munumkum III, Chief of Dutch Komenda, thanked Dr Arthur for the gesture.
