Organised Labour's galamsey strike: GIHOC, GMet bosses threaten to sack staff for participation [VIDEO]

The Board Chairman of the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet), Isaac Amoo, has threatened to ensure that any staff from GMet who joins the nationwide strike declared by Organised Labour as part of the fight against illegal mining will be sacked.

His argument is that, GMet was an essential service provider and therefore cannot go on strike.

He was speaking at a staff event at GMet’s headquarters in Accra on Wednesday, October 9, 2024.

He emphasized that the agency’s operations are critical to national security, especially in providing weather data essential for sectors such as aviation, agriculture, and emergency services.

His warning comes just hours before the nationwide strike, scheduled to begin on Thursday, October 10, 2024.

Similarly, the Managing Director of GIHOC Ltd, Maxwell Kofi Jumah has also issued a warning that any staff from the company who joins the Organised Labour strike against illegal mining will also be sacked or the person may have to forfeit salary for the strike period.

He was speaking in a television interview with Oyerapa TV on Tuesday [October 8, 2024.

Mr. Amoo cautioned that any employee who absents themselves in line with the strike directive should “consider themselves sacked.”
