Galaxy International students win awards

Three students of the Galaxy International School in Accra, who represented Ghana in two different International Olympiads, have won a silver and two bronze medals.

Two of the students, Philemon Johnson and Rashida Iddrisu, who participated in the Fifth International Science Olympiad which was held in Abuja recently, received a silver and bronze medals respectively. 

The Nile University, Ministry of Education of Nigeria and the National Mathematical Centre organised the Fifth Olympiad. Countries that participated included Ghana, Nigeria, Turkey, South Africa, Cote d’Ivoire, Togo, Niger, Tanzania, Chad, Mali, Cameroun, Uganda, Iraq, Kirgizstan, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan and Senegal.

The students were made to answer 100 multiple-choice questions in three hours and 50 other questions in five hours. Questions were asked from Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics.

Another student, Sena Kazdagli, a Year Seven student who participated in the 10th Dreamline International Design Olympiad in Ankara, Turkey, also won a bronze medal.

In all, more than 1,000 students proposed their designs and more than 100 were accepted for the competition.

The Principal of the Secondary Section, Mr Sevket Cikmaz, who is highly elated for his students’ performance, advised the winners to keep up the good work and put together other interesting proposals for upcoming Olympiads and bring laurels to the school and the country as a whole.
