The donation was made under the company’s initiative started in 2002, under which the Ghacem Cement Foundation (GCF) was set up to assist in the infrastructural development of health and educational institutions in deprived communities in the country.

The foundation has, since its establishment, donated about 360,000 bags of cement valued at GH¢8.2 million to communities throughout the country.

The beneficiary schools and hospitals were drawn from the Upper East, Upper West, Northern, Ashanti and Brong Ahafo regions.

This is the second donation by Ghacem which had earlier donated to institutions in the Western, Central, Greater Accra, Eastern and Volta regions which constitute the company’s southern sector.

Speaking at the presentation, the Secretary to the foundation, Dr George Dawson-Ahmoah, said the interest shown by the communities in developing their areas was commendable and advised them to ensure that the donation was used for the benefit of their communities.

The Managing Director of Ghacem, Mr Morten Gade, said as a result of the unreliable power supply, the company had not been able to produce enough to enable it to increase its assistance to cover more communities.

“Ghacem’s avowed objective to produce high quality cement is also being threatened by cheap imports of cement by other players and we appeal to government to resolve these issues as a matter of urgency.”

Mr Gade, however, gave an assurance that Ghacem was committed to maintain its market leadership position by producing and delivering innovative high quality, cost-effective and environmentally responsible cement products to the Ghanaian market and would continue its operations with a commitment to optimise customer satisfaction.
