Ghana Grid Company to replace old equipment
The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) is currently replacing all over-aged equipment at its major substations across the country to enhance the substations’ capacity and operational reliability for the benefit of power consumers.
The works include the re-configuration of some of these substations, installation of additional transformers, replacement of switch-gears, construction or expansion of control rooms, as well as the provision of capacitor banks and standby generators at some major substations.
A statement issued in Accra last Monday mentioned Achimota, Kumasi, Takoradi, Cape Coast, Dunkwa, Tamale, Sunyani, Techiman, Aflao, Winneba, as some of the affected substations.
“As a result of these ongoing works, which are planned for completion by July 2016, there may be short interruptions in power supply to some consumers in order to create a safe working environment for the workers outside the regular load shedding programme,” it said.
It appealed for the support of consumers during the period and assured the public that adequate measures had been put in place to minimise the outages which might result from those works.
“GRIDCo regrets any inconvenience that may be caused to consumers during this period,” it added.
