Akyem Muoso Chief vows to protect town against galamsey
The Chief of Akyem Muoso in the Atiwa West District of the Eastern Region, Osabarima Dr Owusu Beyeeman, has vowed to protect the town's water bodies as well as farmlands from the destructive effects of illegal mining (galamsey).
Osabarima Beyeeman made the vow when he addressed the chiefs and people of Akyem Muoso at a durbar to mark his first year of ascending the throne at Muoso last Wednesday.

The event on the theme: "Thanking God Together", was attended by a number of chiefs, queenmothers and dignitaries such as the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Atiwa West, Douglas Paddy Amponsah.
Illegal miners
Osabarima Dr Beyeeman said the activities of the illegal miners would bring a lot of challenges to his people such as degraded farmlands which would not be suitable for farming, which is the mainstay of the people and the district.
Aside from that, he stated that the people would have no other sources of drinking water because the polluted sources would not be good for human consumption.
Osabarima Dr Beyeeman, therefore, vowed to use his powers to protect the town's water sources from pollution arising from the activities of illegal miners.
He told the gathering that during his one-year rule, the leadership of the town which was divided had become united, making significant progress with many ongoing developments in the area.
He emphasised that with unity and togetherness, the people could achieve anything they had planned.

He said the chief with determination had united his people in the face of challenges.
Professor Gyan praised the chief for his vision and achievements such as the construction of a new police station, a chief’s palace and a new school building.
