Church of Jesus Christ presents medical equipment to Koforidua Polyclinic
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has donated medical equipment worth $104,000 to the Koforidua Polyclinic theatre in the New Juaben South Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The items include an operating table, a mobile operating lamp, a blood refrigerator, general surgical instrument sets, an anaesthesia machine and a dental unit with an LED lamp.
Others are an ear syringing machine, a patient monitor mimbray, a caesarian set and an instrument for hysterectomy.
The rest are a slit lamp, radiant warmer, air conditioners, a Diathermy machine and a fully automated Biochemistry Analyser.
The equipment, which was purchased from money such as tithes and offerings from members of the church worldwide, is aimed at enhancing quality healthcare delivery in the area.
Request
Donating the items on the premises of the Koforidua Polyclinic last Monday, the President of the Koforidua branch of the church, Desmond Anom Osei, said the church decided to come to the rescue of the Polyclinic following a request for assistance to better treat patients.
Humanity
He stated that since their priority was on the improvement of health and educational services, the church decided to offer such support to help save lives.
The church, according to the President, had always been making such humanitarian donations over the years to accomplish its aims and objectives.
Prompt response
“When you are in the service of your fellow human being, then you are in the service of God, which is the reason for our prompt response to helping the Polyclinic and the community as a whole with such equipment.
"The spirit needs human beings to dwell in so that they can work, and if they are healthy, then they can serve the Lord better,” Mr Osei stated.
Patients smiling
Mr Osei expressed the hope that the items presented would put smiles back on the faces of the patients as well as the medical staff who would be using them.
He indicated that since the equipment was very expensive, management of the facility should ensure that they were taken good care of to serve the purpose for which it was donated.
The Deputy Director in charge of Clinical Care at the Eastern Regional Health Directorate, Dr Samuel Bortier Borlabi, said the willingness of the church to assist the Polyclinic showed its commitment to societal welfare.
He, on behalf of the management of the facility, expressed appreciation to the church for its generosity.
Dream comes true
The New Juaben South Municipal Health Director, Eunice Abuaku, stated that the donation had been a dream come true to give quality health care to patients in its catchment area.
Save lives
She explained that the donation reflected the church’s deep belief in serving and uplifting communities, stressing, “We hope that this medical equipment will go a long way in improving the quality of healthcare delivered at the Polyclinic and help save many lives.
The Medical Superintendent of the Koforidua Polyclinic, Dr Ofori Koromoah Kwame, said the Biomedical Engineering Unit of the facility would ensure that the equipment, especially those for the theatre, was well maintained.
