Cleaning companies in the country have been advised to develop internal capabilities to achieve certification.
This will not only help them maintain high professional standards, but it would also significantly impact the industry which was steadily developing.
A Cleaning Industry Management Standard (CIMS)-certified auditor with the global cleaning association, ISSA, Lynn Webster, gave the advice at a recertification luncheon hosted by Spaklean Limited.
Ms Webster emphasised the importance of certification in upholding cleaning standards and its significant influence on service quality and the health and safety of building occupants.
“A certified cleaning services provider demonstrates a commitment to quality and the well-being of building users. Certification validates a company’s dedication, training, expertise and professionalism through independent assessment,” she explained.
The CIMS is a comprehensive management standard and certification programme provided by ISSA.
It serves as both a framework and a rigorous evaluation tool to set benchmarks for quality systems, service delivery, human resources, and health, safety and environmental stewardship.
In 2021, Spaklean Limited became the first African company to achieve CIMS certification and was successfully recertified in 2023.
At the third recertification luncheon held in Accra last week, themed "Soaring Higher," industry leaders from Ghana and abroad recognised the company's significant accomplishment.
The Managing Director of Spaklean, Dinah Owusu-Kissi, attributed its success to the dedication and diligence of its staff, management team and board of directors.
She emphasised that Spaklean's commitment to CIMS standards remained integral to its ongoing improvement initiatives to enhance quality and professionalism.
Mrs Owusu-Kissi also urged facility managers, procurement professionals and building owners to prioritise certified cleaning service providers to ensure high-quality standards.
ISSA partnership
The Chairperson of the Contract Cleaners Association of Ghana (CCAG), Lorraine Ababio, commended Spaklean Limited for its commitment to global excellence.
She highlighted the importance of the association’s partnership with ISSA in advancing Ghana’s cleaning industry towards international standards.
