Court grants bail to NPP member at Ejisu

The Juaben Circuit Court has granted bail to a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ejisu Constituency, Nana Osei Bonsu, for allegedly forging the letterhead of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) with names of fake beneficiaries.

He was granted bail in the sum of GH¢10,000 with a surety.

As part of the bail conditions, the surety must be a permanent resident of Ejisu.

Alleged forgery

Prosecutors assert that Osei Bonsu distributed a forged document with names of fake NEIP beneficiaries and the forged signature of the Chief Executive Officer of the NEIP, Mr John Kumah.

Nana Bonsu has pleaded not guilty to publication of false information.

Hearing continues on May 19, 2020 at the court presided over by Mr Assibey Yusif.

Prosecution’s case

It is the case of the prosecution that Nana Bonsu created and circulated a fake list of 2,018 beneficiaries of the NEIP and placed it on a fake letterhead purported to be the letterhead of the NEIP. He is also accused of forging the signature of Mr Kumah, who is also a parliamentary aspirant of the NPP in the Ejisu Constituency.

According to the prosecution, the NEIP lodged a complaint with the police leading to the arrest of Nana Bonsu.
