Fire guts multiple wooden structures at Tema Industrial Area

A number of wooden structures have been destroyed as a massive fire swept through a settlement behind the Ferro Fabrik Ltd in the Tema Heavy Industrial Area.

The fire, which reportedly started in the late hours of Wednesday, reduced multiple structures used for both domestic and commercial purposes to ashes.

As of the time of filing this report, the fire had been brought under control by firefighters of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), with no injuries or fatalities recorded.

The Tema Regional Command of the GNFS said in the late hours of Wednesday, June 18, 2025, the GNFS swiftly responded to a fierce fire involving multiple wooden structures, used for both domestic and commercial purposes, located behind Ferro Fabrik Ltd in the Tema Heavy Industrial Area.

Call

The Command said it received a distress call at 11:52 p.m. and the first appliance from the Tema Industrial Area Fire Station, led by ADO I Orlando Adablanu, arrived at 11:58 p.m.

The GNFS said firefighters brought the blaze under control at 1:59 a.m. yesterday and fully extinguished it at 5:43 a.m.

The GNFS said to reinforce the operation, six additional fire engines were deployed from Tema Metro, Motorway, Ashaiman, Newtown, Devtraco and BOST Fire Stations.

The Command indicated that firefighters salvaged an unspecified number of wooden structures, Ferro Fabrik Ltd and adjoining factories, preventing further spread of the fire.

It, however, said over 500 wooden structures and their contents were lost to the fire.

The operation was supported by the Tema Regional Fire Commander, ACFO II Patrick Sallah, other senior officers, and some partner agencies.

Investigation

Meanwhile, the GNFS has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.

When the Daily Graphic visited the scene yesterday morning, some of the affected residents were brooding over their loss.

Ben Adjei, a resident, said he had gone for night shift when he received a phone call about the inferno.

He said he lost everything in his wooden structure, which served as his abode.
