
Father Campbell launches GH¢1m fund for Weija Leprosarium Kitchen, dining hall
Rev. Father Andrew Campbell has launched a GH¢1 million fund to build a dining hall and kitchen for the Weija Leprosarium ahead of his 80th birthday celebration in March next year.
Dubbed, Fr Campbell at 80 birthday celebration project, the dining hall and kitchen are expected to provide at least two meals each day.
Former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who is the Patron of the leprosarium, unveiled the logo for the fund in Accra yesterday, for the man who is also marking 54 years since he first landed on the shores of Ghana to work as a priest.
The event was jointly chaired by the Omanhene of Asante Juaben Traditional Area in the Ashanti Region, Nana Appiagyei Dankawoso I, and the Executive Director of Salt and Light Ministries, Dr Joyce Aryee.
Dr Bawumia commended Rev. Fr Campbell for the vital work being done for the marginalised and vulnerable communities in society and his unwavering commitment to helping those in need.
He added that the core purpose of human existence was in helping one another, echoing the biblical commandment to "Love thy neighbour as yourself”.
The former Vice-President called on all to support the project in order to put smiles on the faces of the beneficiaries of the project.
In a speech read on her behalf by Michael Sumaila, the Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Administration, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, praised Rev. Fr Campbell for his unwavering commitment to serving those afflicted by leprosy and the marginalised in society, saying, "He has shown us what it means to be Christ-like, carrying the weight of responsibility with dignity."
She called on the public to recognise Rev Fr Campbell’s impact on social justice and his role in bringing hope to the hopeless.
