Ghana-Diaspora Home Purchase Expo now twice yearly

Organizers of the just-ended Ghana-Diaspora Home Purchase Expo 2024 have resolved to hold the event twice a year and not annually as earlier planned.

This follows a huge virtual participation and interest shown among diaspora Ghanaians in London, Germany, the US, Canada and Australia.

Participation

The participants/attendees benefited from free legal, investment, and tax advisory services from experts in various fields while real estate developers who participated and exhibited
their products took turns to introduce and market their apartments, flats, condos, townhouses and serviced plots, among others.

The two-day expo, the maiden edition, was organised by HTS Constructions and sponsored by Nilex Properties on the theme: “Our homes, our investment, our heritage."

The expo attracted both in-person and virtual assembled Ghanaians and others in the diaspora with plans to resettle or own properties in Ghana, to interact with real estate developers
participating and exhibiting at the venue.

Excitement among diasporas

The lead organiser, Alex OseiOwusu, speaking at the end of the expo, said the objective of the expo to create a one-stop avenue where those in the diaspora and playersin the real
estate sector would interact and do business was met beyond expectation.

He said the interest and enthusiasm of the participants were overwhelming, “and we the organisers think we should heed their request.

Therefore,we are going to hold another one in the course of the year before the December one again.”

“Thanks to the headline sponsor, Nilex Properties Limited, which also outdoored its ultra-modern 19-story block ofsmart apartmentsthat boast of the state-of-the-art luxury in city
living,” he added.

He said it was obvious that “a lot more of our compatriots outthere did not get the opportunity to participate, and going forward, we shall foster closer links with these Ghanaian communities overseas to reach out to more Ghanaians and other non-residents to raise awareness of the huge opportunities in the real estate industry in Ghana.”

Buying apartment

Mr Osei-Owusu, who is also the Director, Legal at the HTS Constructions said it was more convenient, safer and stress-free to invest in apartments or already constructed housing units than
buying plots of land to build, considering the frustration of getting a litigation-free plot of land.

“That is not all; after acquiring all the genuine documentation, if you are lucky, another challenge you will be confrontedwith hasto dowith the artisans who will work on the plot.

"So, don't waste your time going through all those frustrations with landlords and artisans.

Just buy an already-made house and move in," he added.

Mr Osei-Owusu advised Ghanaians in the diaspora that the time when they were advised to invest in building a house had long gone; the discussion now as that “if you get money, buy an apartment or a house instead of building.”

He said the organisers intended to make Ghana the destination (hub) for real estate investment and economic tourism in Africa.

“We shall also move the expo to locations outside Ghana with large Ghanaians, such as London, Hamburger, Atlanta, Washington Maryland-Virginia, Massachusetts, New York, Toronto and Sydney,” Mr Osei-Owsu said.
