Ghana Immigration Service receives essential equipment from Germany

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has received essential operational equipment from the German Government.

Worth GH¢1,774,000, the equipment is to boost border security and officer safety, continuing strong bilateral support for managing irregular migration and combating transnational crime in the West African region.

They included a 16-seater Foton View CS2 bus, laptops, tablets, printers, helmets and bulletproof vests.

The gesture forms part of Germany’s ongoing support, often delivered through the German Federal Police and the Embassy.

Between 2020 and 2024, the German assistance to the GIS included vehicles (pick-ups, minibuses, vans) and document examination tools to combat document fraud and terrorism.

The Comptroller General of the GIS, Samuel Basintale Amadu, received the items in the presence of some management members, including the Deputy Comptroller General (DCG), Command Post and Operations, Laud O. Affrifah; DCG/Legal, Research and Monitoring, Philip Peter Andoh; Deputy Commissioner of Immigration, Public Affairs Department, Maud Anima Quainoo, and Assistant Commissioner of Immigration, Chief Staff Officer, Gordon Saah.

Receiving the items, Mr Basintale Amadu expressed the service’s appreciation to the German Government for its continuous support in strengthening Ghana’s border security, especially the northern frontier identified as volatile.

He highlighted the long-standing partnership between the two institutions and noted that the donation would significantly boost operational efficiency and enhance the quality of service delivery.

He assured the German Embassy that the items would significantly enhance the service’s ability to execute its mandate.

Capacity building

The German Defence Attaché to Ghana, Holger Grossman, who led a four-member delegation to the GIS Headquarters to present the items, reiterated that the German government took security seriously.

He said Germany was also delighted to support the GIS in its mandate to enhance border security and facilitate safe migration.

He further explained that the donation reflected the country’s confidence in the GIS and its continuous efforts in capacity-building initiatives.

“Germany is proud to stand with Ghana in building safe, secure and well-managed borders. We look forward to stronger cooperation and shared efforts in subsequent years,” he added.
