The Gomoa Central Special Economic Zone (GCSEZ) has been launched with the goal of transforming the Central Region into a commercial and industrial hub that will drive the country’s economic expansion.
The project, spearheaded by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as Kwame A-Plus, is anchored on four key components, namely an eco-recreational park, organic farming zones, a 24-hour business district and an eco-industrial hub.
The zone spans over 21,000 acres of secured, litigation-free land designated for schools, industries, logistics and commerce.
To facilitate investor participation, a digital land acquisition and management system has been introduced through a mobile application known as Dilap.
The platform enables investors to browse available lands, make payments, and access real-time updates on their projects, from acquisition to construction, without relying on middlemen.
It is integrated directly with the national land information platform to guarantee transparency and secure transactions.
The launch in Accra last Tuesday was graced by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin; Presidential Advisor on the 24-Hour Economy, Goosie Tanoh; Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Sir Sam Jonah, and the President of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area, Obrempong Nyanful Krampah XI.
Also present were several business leaders, including the Founder of RNAQ Holdings, Richard Nii Armah Quaye, and media personality and entrepreneur Kwabena Adisi, popularly known as Bola Ray, among others.
Reviving Nkrumah’s vision
The MP for Gomoa Central said the project was inspired by the vision of the country’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, who foresaw Gomoa as a centre for industrial and educational transformation.
“When Dr Nkrumah visited Gomoa some 60 years ago, he saw not just farmland, but potential —fertile ground to plant the seeds of Ghana’s industrial and educational revolution,” he recalled.
He highlighted Dr Nkrumah’s legacy projects in the area, including the Pomadze Poultry Farms, a hatchery for day-old chicks, livestock farms, and the Kwame Nkrumah Ideological Institute, now the South Campus of the University of Education, Winneba.
“These were not mere projects; they were pillars of a national dream that positioned Gomoa at the heart of Ghana’s development story. Today, it is our turn to continue that vision and build a modern hub that will revive Nkrumah’s dream and make Ghana a true economic powerhouse,” he said.
Mr Obeng said the Gomoa Central Special Economic Zone, developed under the Ghana Free Zones Authority framework and aligned with AfCFTA, would serve as a key trade and manufacturing gateway for the continent’s 1.4 billion consumers.
Speaker of Parliament
The Speaker of Parliament described the project as a mission rather than a mere development initiative, noting that it rekindled the vision of the country’s first Prime Minister, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, for industrialisation, freedom, and justice across Africa.
He praised the initiative’s alignment with the 24-hour Economy blueprint, saying it complemented government efforts towards green and digital industrial transformation.
“This is a great dream not just for Gomoa but for Ghana and Africa. We must build on this vision with discipline, honesty and hard work.
The most important element in development is the human resource, and that resource must be focused, fruitful and committed to nation-building,” he said.
Industrial transformation
The Presidential Advisor on the 24-Hour Economy said the project was the beginning of a strategic partnership that reflected the country’s collective ambition to advance industrial transformation.
He noted that the scale of the project was about 20 times the size of the German industrial region.
Mr Tanoh said that was an assurance that it could become a major hub of industrial activity, job creation and export growth.
He explained that beyond the numbers, the project would have tangible benefits for local communities, enabling farmers to process their produce locally, empowering small businesses through contracts and supply chains and providing employment for young people who would have migrated to urban areas in search of jobs.
Chief pledges support
Obrempong Nyanful Krampah XI pledged the full support of the chiefs and people of the area for the project.
He said the project represented a bold step towards sustainable development and aligned perfectly with President Mahama’s 24-hour Economy agenda.
