The Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI), Samuel Basintale Amadu, has paid a courtesy call on the Nayiri of the Mamprugu kingdom, Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga, as part of his official tour of the North East Region.
During the visit, the CGI appealed to the Nayiri (paramount chief) to encourage his subjects to support immigration officers and other law enforcement agencies posted to the region in discharging their duties effectively.
He acknowledged the challenges posed by both internal and external criminal elements and called for community collaboration in safeguarding Ghana’s land borders for the collective good of the citizenry.
Conduct
Mr Amadu advised that any concerns regarding the conduct of immigration officers should be reported to the service rather than confronting the officers directly.
He assured Naa Sheriga that his men would continue to perform their duties with utmost professionalism and dedication.
He emphasised the importance of traditional leadership and sought the king’s counsel, wisdom and blessings as he commenced his regional tour.
Welcoming the Comptroller-General, Naa Sheriga, expressed his condolences to the service and the families of officers who were attacked and pledged his support in efforts to apprehend the perpetrators.
He gave assurance of continued collaboration between his paramount chiefs, subjects and immigration officers.
Naa Sheriga wished Mr Amadu a successful tenure and encouraged the deployment of additional personnel to the region to bolster border security and protect the community.
In a related development, the Comptroller-General and his entourage also visited the Chief of Gbintri, Gbemtiri Naa Zumzung, at his palace, following a stop at the checkpoint where his men were attacked.
The visit formed part of ongoing engagements aimed at strengthening community relations and enhancing security cooperation in the region.
He also visited the Nasia Inland Checkpoint, the Wunjuga Inland Post, Nalerigu Border Post and the Regional Headquarters, where he interacted with officers to understand their challenges, boost their morale and encourage them to remain resolute in the discharge of their duties.
