Immigration vehicle crashes 2 apprentices near Kadjebi

Two apprentices, a male and a female, died on the spot when the motorbike on which they were travelling was knocked down by a Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) Toyota Hilux Pickup.

The vehicle was being driven by the Menusu Sector Commander of the GIS at Okanta in the Kadjebi District in the Oti Region last Wednesday.

The two, Suleman Ibrahim, 20, and Rahiya Mumuni, 21, were returning to their hometown at Menusu where they commute to and from each day to Kadjebi around 7 p.m. when the incident occurred.

The Assistant Commissioner, Samuel Owusu Agyeman, was travelling in the opposite direction towards Kadjebi when the incident occurred.

Irate youth of Okanta set the vehicle ablaze to show their anger but for the timely arrival of the police, the driver, Owusu Agyeman, would have been lynched by the mob. 

Sulemana Ibrahim, owner of the motorbike, was a mechanic apprentice while Rahiya was a seamstress apprentice.

Their deaths have thrown the twin farming communities of Okanta and Menusu into a state of shock since they were both due to complete their apprenticeship by the end of the year.

Both Ibrahim and Mumuni have since been buried in line with Islamic religion.

The Kadjebi District Police Commander, Frank Nana Asomaning, who confirmed the incident said the GIS Sector Commander was also undergoing treatment at the Mary-Theresa Catholic

Hospital at Dodi Papase due to the injuries he sustained from the accident and the attempted lynching.He said investigations into the accident were underway.
