Ministry of Information to grant journalists with scholarships

The Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has announced plans to grant scholarship to journalists as part of what the Ministry calls a Media Capacity Enhancement Programme.

He said the programme is aimed at enhancing the skills of journalists in various fields of their profession.

Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah disclosed the this, when the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) called on his office ahead of the 70th anniversary celebration of the association this year.

Speaking with Joy FM he said the programme will be lunched before the first half of the year.

“Specifically this year we want to assist in capacity enhancement of media practitioners, capacity enhancement because the media has very high level of capacity in Ghana, no doubt about it, but as you mentioned, there are some major of pitfalls that sometimes get all of us to crunch, there’s also a need as the market of the land scape keeps changing and improving, to also improve on our capacities, we’ve already started engagements with the GJA, you will give us a representative on the committee, The National Media Commission, GIJ School of Communication Studies etc. the Media Capacity Enhancement Programme before the first half of this year will be birthed and it will provide scholarships for practicing journalists to deepen their capacity in the field of operation.”
