ECG announces power cuts in Spintex, Sakumono and Lashibi over transformer works

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced planned power outages in parts of the Spintex corridor and surrounding communities from Tuesday, April 14 to Thursday, April 16, to allow for work on a transformer at the Lashibi Primary Substation.

A press release issued on Saturday, April 11, 2026, said the exercise involves the replacement of a 20/26MVA transformer with a 30/39MVA unit.

The company said the work forms the second phase of the government’s Transformer Replacement and Upgrade Programme, following the completion of the first phase at the Nmai Dzorn Primary Substation.

ECG said the outages would be carried out in six-hour intervals across four groups of communities, rotating each day according to a published schedule.

Communities under Group A1, including Community 18, Regimanuel Estates, Manet Cottage, Devtraco Estates and nearby areas, will be without power from 6:00am to 12:00 noon daily. Group A2, which covers Baatsonaa, Marina Mall, Resolve Hospital, the Timber Market and Temple Gate, will experience outages from 12:00 noon to 6:00pm.

For the evening periods, areas under Group B1, such as Sakumono Estates and Village, Celebrity Golf Club, EMEF Estates and Regimanuel Estates in Community 19, will have their supply interrupted from 6:00pm to 12:00 midnight. Group B2, including Spintex Junction, Paloma, HFC Estates, ICGC, Fafali, the Puma Fuel Station and C&J Medical Centre, will be affected from 12:00 midnight to 6:00am.

The schedule shows that Groups A1, A2 and B1 will be affected on all three days, while no outage period has been indicated for Group B2 on the third day.

ECG explained that the planned outages are to allow for safe installation works and advised customers in the affected areas to plan ahead.

The company added that the upgrade forms part of ongoing efforts to reduce pressure on the electricity network and improve supply.
