The project, under the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources, successfully transformed the once problematic Kpone Landfill into a green space, utilising cutting-edge engineering solutions.

It took the collaborative efforts between the Jospong Group, FeDems Limited, Construction Ambassadors, Watershed Geo USA, Halliton (USA) and other partners not only to address the landfill's environmental and public health issues but also to set a benchmark for waste management and land reclamation across the region.

The conference, which gathers leaders from the global engineering, construction, and infrastructure sectors, focused on the theme: "Transforming Lives with Infrastructure: Investing in and Building a Better World for All".

A release issued in Accra said the recognition came after “a presentation by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of FeDems Limited, the Ghanaian engineering consulting firm involved in the project on the topic “Keeping the menace the sustainable way: a case of the Kpone Landfill Decommissioning”.

It said, in the end, the project was hailed as a significant achievement in environmental rehabilitation and sustainable development.

Partnerships

The CEO, Felix Astrim, emphasised the importance of strong partnerships between the government, private sector entities, and local communities in achieving such transformative outcomes.

He described the Kpone project as a shining example of how infrastructure development could address critical challenges such as climate change, urbanisation and public health.

The release added that the conference participants, including representatives from leading global engineering firms, government bodies and international organisations, praised the Kpone project as a model for other nations facing similar environmental challenges, adding: “The project's success underscores the vital role of infrastructure in transforming lives and building a better world”.
