Mercy Otabil adjudged overall best at SUNU Assurances awards

Mercy Otabil from the Accra DVLA Outlet was adjudged the overall best agent at this year’s National Retail Sales Conference and Awards 2025 organised by SUNU Assurances Ghana Ltd to reward and recognise the hard work and excellence of dedicated sales agents for the year 2024.

Kweku Essel of the Winneba branch took the first runner-up position while the second position went to Naomi Ofosu, also of Accra DVLA.

The event brought together 48 award winners from 14 branches at the forecourt of the SUNU Assurances head office in Accra.

The branches included the head office, Sunyani, Cape Coast, Ho, Koforidua, Kumasi, Spintex, Takoradi, Tamale, Techiman, Tema and Winneba.

Prizes

Ms Otabil’s star prize award included a fully sponsored vacation for two in Dubai.

She also received a washing machine from the Board Chairman of SUNU Assurances, Paa Kwesi Eduafo Yankey, as a complimentary award for her consistency.

On the other hand, Mr Essel and Ms Ofosu will also enjoy a luxurious beach resort vacation with their partners, in addition to cash rewards.

Fifth award

Speaking to the Daily Graphic after the event, Ms Otabil revealed that this was the fifth award she had received from the National Retail Sales Conference and Awards.

She attributed her success to hard work and consistency. “This came about because she had been working very hard by giving her clients discounts where necessary and also exploiting SUNU’s ease of doing business through a cutting-edge technology platform known as EZISURE.”

Ms Otabil said it was not surprising to many when her name was mentioned as the overall best at the ceremony.

She added that the challenge she faced was because Ghanaians had been familiar with other insurance companies so it was very difficult to convince them about SUNU Assurances.

“Thanks to the hard work of management, SUNU Assurances has become a household name, making it easier to sell,” she stated.

She encouraged her colleagues to work diligently so they would also be recognised and rewarded.

Awards ceremony

The 15th edition of the awards ceremony, which was categorised into national and branches, included the overall star prize, best renewal award, among others.

The Managing Director for SUNU Assurances, Mathieu Nkatta, congratulated the awardees on their outstanding results and exceptional efforts and advised the agents that they were not just salespeople but also change makers, problem solvers and the face of SUNU in every home, shop and business they touched.

In his closing remarks, the Board Chairman of SUNU Assurances, Kwesi Yankey, said the agents played a major role in achieving the targets they had set for themselves, that was why the awards had been initiated to encourage them to do more.

The Head of Retail of SUNU Assurances, Ebenezer Abeku Onumah, said there was a problem of inaccurate data facing the insurance industry in the country.

Mr Onumah stressed that the company needed authentic data to be able to reach out to do business and get clear data so that they could attract customers to the insurance industry.
