Ghana Stock Exchange extends decline into new month in Wednesday sell-off

The Ghana Stock Exchange recorded a second consecutive session of losses on Wednesday (April 1, 2026), with the GSE Composite Index (GSE-CI) shedding 143.05 points to close at 12,917.08, as selling pressure continued to weigh on the bourse.

Trading data for the 7,183rd session, held on April 1, 2026, showed sustained investor caution, with the GSE Financial Stocks Index (GSE-FSI) falling 81.21 points to settle at 7,905.63.

Market capitalisation contracted to GH¢241.72 billion, down from Tuesday's GH¢243.73 billion, as the post-March correction extended into the new month.

Total volume of shares traded for the session reached 7,158,450, with aggregate value hitting GH¢39,729,156.95.

MTN Ghana leads decliners

Scancom PLC (MTNGH) continued to bear the brunt of selling pressure, shedding GH¢0.08 to close at GH¢5.32. The telecommunications giant remained the most actively traded counter, with 6,472,638 shares changing hands—accounting for more than 90 per cent of all trading activity—and contributing GH¢34,524,064.40 to total market value.

GCB Bank PLC (GCB) plunged by GH¢2.70 to close at GH¢24.36, while SIC Insurance Company PLC (SIC) declined by GH¢0.22 to GH¢3.08. Ecobank Transnational Inc. (ETI) edged down GH¢0.01 to GH¢1.48.

Clydestone and Cal Bank lead gainers

Clydestone (Ghana) PLC (CLYD) recorded a gain of GH¢0.09 to close at GH¢1.08, making it the session's top performer. Cal Bank PLC (CAL) added GH¢0.01 to close at GH¢0.70, while Ghana Oil Company Limited (GOIL) inched up GH¢0.01 to GH¢7.85.

BOPP holds steady at GH¢100

Benso Palm Plantation PLC (BOPP) maintained its historic triple-digit price level, closing unchanged at GH¢100.00, with 7,016 shares traded, contributing GH¢701,600 to total market value.

On the Ghana Alternative Market, Intravenous Infusions Limited (IIL) recorded active trading with 22,708 shares changing hands at an unchanged price of GH¢0.05.

Market summary

The GSE-CI has now gained 47.28 per cent since the start of the year, significantly paring earlier gains of over 80 per cent recorded in mid-March. The financial stocks index remains up 70.12 per cent year-to-date despite the recent correction.

Wednesday's session marked the second consecutive day of declines, with the benchmark index shedding more than 2,900 points from its all-time high of 15,908.77 reached on March 18.
