New Board of Governors for ASASCO inaugurated

A 13-member Board of Governors for the Asamankese Senior High School (ASASCO) has been inaugurated, with a call on the members to work toward enhancing academic excellence in the school.

The new Board, with a three-year mandate, was also charged to support efforts at instilling discipline among the school’s community, particularly among the students.

The Asamankese Circuit Court Judge, His Honour Maxwell Ofori Kpodo, swore the new board members into office.

The Eastern Regional Director of Education, Dr Ivy Asantewaa Owusu, who made the call in her inaugural address, said the success of any educational institution depended on quality academic laurels.

Dr Owusu said the board members were carefully and critically selected, taking into consideration their competence, assiduity, dedication to duty and preparedness to work voluntarily without expecting any material rewards.

She stressed that the board was the highest decision-making body in the school, which was mandated to punish offending students.

The education director enjoined the board to operate under the laws of the country, stating that the Board’s three-year mandate to serve could be renewed for an additional three years based on their performance.

Dr Owusu commended the headmaster, Mr Benjamin Okai Sakyi, for transforming the school academically and improving the infrastructural development in the school and urged other heads of educational institutions to emulate his example.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for West Akyem, Paulina Akabila, who was an immediate tutor of the school, praised the staff of the institution for their commitment to the development of the school and promised that the West Akyem Municipal Assembly would put up an ultra-modern assembly hall for the school.

The Asamankesehene, Osabarima Adu Darko III, who chaired the function promised to award scholarships for 20 students who would excel in the ongoing West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSE) to further their education in tertiary institutions.

He said plans were far advanced to establish a faculty of the University of Education, Winneba, at Asamankese.

The Headmaster of ASASCO, Mr Benjamin Okai Sakyi, in his welcome address, praised the outgoing members of the Board for their outstanding performance and urged the incoming members to take a cue from them.

The new Board Chairman, Dr Yaw Asare-Aboagye, the Asumkahene of Asamankese, on behalf of his colleagues, thanked the management of ASASCO for the honour done them and pledged to prove equal to the task.
