GNFS announces multiple flood rescues and fire outbreaks after June 3 heavy downpour in Accra

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has reported multiple emergency responses following Wednesday's [June 3, 2026] heavy downpour, involving flood rescues and fire outbreaks across parts of the Greater Accra Region.

Fire at Oyarifa

At around 5:30 pm on Wednesday evening, the Madina Fire Station responded to a fire involving an ECG meter board within a residential facility at Oyarifa. The fire was successfully contained at about 6:20 pm with no reported casualties.

Flood rescues at Oyarifa and Old Ashongman

Firefighters from the Madina Fire Station responded to two separate flood incidents at Oyarifa KB Junction and Old Ashongman near Bohye Church at around 6:30 pm. In total, nine persons trapped by floodwaters were successfully rescued without injuries.

Fire at Kanda Post Office Area

At around 9:49 pm on Wednesday evening, firefighters swiftly contained a fire involving underground cables behind a self-contained residential facility at Kanda Post Office. No casualties were recorded, and the cause remains under investigation.


Fire at Makola

A fire involving a shop opposite the Accra City Fire Station at Makola was already extinguished upon arrival of firefighters at about 12:50 am on early Thursday morning. Some items in the shop were partially damaged. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Fire at Nungua Cold Store Area

Firefighters from the Trade Fair Fire Station responded to a fire involving a residential structure near the police station at Nungua Cold Store Area at 1:56 pm.

Upon arrival, a single room and a porch used as a kitchen were found partially burnt with their contents. No casualties were reported, and the cause is yet to be determined.

Fire at Kuntense Satellite

At 04:03 pm on Thursday, firefighters from the Amasaman Fire Station responded to a fire involving an ECG pole with installed meters at Kuntense Satellite. The meters were completely burnt. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
